I'm the Chihuahua, with ancestral roots from Mexico, and am also the world's smallest dog. My ancestors are said to have immigrated to Mexico from Europe, brought by Spaniards during the days of the explorer Christopher Columbus-the late 15th century.

You probably know me best as the short-haired variety Chihuahua dog breed, but I also have been bred as a long-haired version.

Many times I don't feel that I'm so small, and think I can compete with the bigger breeds. I'm a sassy, active personality in a very small package.

And for some reason, celebrities just seem to love and pamper me-they're always carrying me around with them.

I've also had my share of TV and movie fame. Maybe you remember me as the advertising mascot for Taco Bell restaurants in the late 1990's?

My most rewarding and enjoyable role was playing Bruiser in the Legally Blonde and Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde movies...all those fabulous outfits!

I'm looking for an owner who... wants a tiny, lovable, devoted companion. Whether you live in a small city apartment, a large suburban house, or something in-between, I'll feel right at home.

Even if you have older children, and small dogs or cats, I'll fit right in. But no small children please-they can frighten me, and I can be injured if not handled carefully.

As the Chihuahua dog breed, I'm a member of the Toy Group, and a good choice for someone who wants a lap dog. I'm suitable for first-time dog owners, love to snuggle, be spoiled, and will be very devoted to you.

I'm an intelligent dog and catch on quickly, but can be a bit stubborn. Sometimes I'm a fussy eater, and show my temper, but who hasn't had a bad day from time to time? With your patience and persistence, and the correct training I'll learn what I need to.

I like to be socialized at an early age, so that I can meet and get along with other people and dogs, and be able to travel most everywhere with you.

When we go for walks, I'd love a stylish sweater to ward off the chill and dampness. Since I'm so small, I tend to get cold easily.

Oh, and I make a great watchdog-you should hear me bark when I need to.

Interestingly, I'm told that as the long-haired Chihuahua dog breed variety, I was developed in the United States.

This breed version was paired with the Pomeranian and the Papillon, and other small dogs to give me that soft-fringed look. But I just don't see the resemblance...do you?
